Non-orthogonal multiple Access (NOMA) as URLLC’s enabler.

The explosion of new applications such as the tactile internet, autonomous vehicles, virtual reality, holographic teleportation, real time sensors…etc, poses serious challenges in the design of future generations of wireless networks, in the sense that they must satisfy sometimes conflictual requirements, such as ultra-reliability, low latency, spectral efficiency…etc. NOMA has attracted a lot of attention in recent years and has managed to establish itself as one of the main candidates, as an access method, for future wireless networks, as it allows to serve several users simultaneously with a high spectral efficiency. Moreover, the combination of NOMA and short-packets is shown to be an enabler for ultra-reliable, low-latency communication (URLLC). In this talk, I will first present the basic concept of the power-domain NOMA and the effective capacity. Next, the performance of NOMA, compared to the conventional orthogonal multiple access technique OMA, will be presented in the case of an uplink network. And finally, finite blocklength is coupled to NOMA to enable URLLC communications.
