Biography
Olivier Romain (Member, IEEE) received the Engineering degree in electronics from Telecom Strasbourg (ex ENSPS) in 1997, the master’s degree in photonics from Louis Pasteur University in 1997, Agregation degree in electronics from ENS Cachan in 1998, and the Ph.D. degree in electronics from Pierre and Marie Curie University in 2001, Paris. From 2002 to 2010, he was associate professor of Sorbonne University (ex UPMC) both in LIP6 Laboratory (SYEL team) and Sorbonne Polytech. He received the HDR degree in electronics in 2010. From 2011 up to day, he is full Professor at the Cergy Paris University, in the ETIS Laboratory. During 2012 to 2015, the was Head of the Department of Architecture of ETIS-UMR8051 and since January 2020, he is the Director of the ETIS.
The research I have conducted so far is highly interdisciplinary and requires the development of methods that are transversal to the usual tools in order to respond to societal issues. My activities revolve around the study of “intelligent” embedded systems and concern, more specifically, the definition of signatures characterising the observation of interest, the design with a small footprint, and the understanding of the effects at the interfaces for the compensation of the environment on the system. The two main areas of this research are mainly rooted in health and security. The complexity of the applications addressed has led me to implement breakthrough methods on a wide range of aspects: adaptive broadband impedance spectroscopy, computational substrate support for AI algorithms, unconventional imaging to characterize actimetry, intelligent tissues, and AI-assisted diagnosis for early identification/characterization of pathologies.
