Title: Communications Front-End modeling: Photodiodes, Digital Power Amplifiers & Systems

Abstract:

As energy efficiency and sobriety becomes more and more a societal concern, communication systems need to be adapted and to consume less energy. In this talk, I will present my research on front-end component modeling, from photodiodes to Digital Power Amplifiers. In photonic-based sub-TeraHertz communications, the photodiode is a key element on the available transmit power. In my thesis, I have proposed a model and shown that Continuous Phase Modulations has a better resistance against photodiodes non-linear effects as well as a better energy efficiency than traditional waveforms. During my post-doc at ETIS I focus on Digital Power Amplifiers (DPAs) that have emerged in modern Wireless transmission because of their better efficiency than Analog Power Amplifiers (APAs). I propose a model along with a new Digital Pre-Distortion scheme, adapted to this new kind of power amplifiers. The talk will conclude on a projection plan of my research with short-term and long-term projects.
